Here is one that you just don’t see, and may not see again for a very long time. This is a VERY RARE and desirable Maine medicine bottle, embossed on front panel, “DR. CUMMINGS / COMPOUND EXTRACT / SARSAPARILLA AND DOCK / PORTLAND, ME.“. This is also one of the most whittled bottles you will ever see. There may be only 5-10 examples out there, and of the ones I have seen, they are all whittled like this! I would guess this to be an 1840-50s bottle, made for this Portland Maine merchant, in this rectangular form, with a thin flared lip, and an open pontil scarred base. Honestly, there may be only a handful that do not have damage… tough bottle to acquire!! This one is about perfect. There is a tiny (1/8”) cooling line in the lip that is very difficult to see, otherwise perfect. This is a wild bottle, and certainly a centerpiece for the collector!
